Quenching and Tempering of Steel Thread Rolling Plates

    The thread rolling plate is a tool for rolling external threads. When working, the teeth are subjected to strong impact load and extrusion stress, and usually fail due to wear or fatigue. After heat treatment, the hardness is 58-61HRC within 3-5mm below the tooth root; the quenched martensite is <3 grade; the tooth surface has no decarburization layer; the tooth surface deformation is within the tolerance range.


    Quenching is generally carried out in a salt bath with sufficient deoxidation and slag removal. The heat treatment process is as follows.


    1) Binding. As a rule of thumb, two workpieces are bound back-to-back on a dedicated quenching fixture.


    2) Quenching. 860 - 87℃ x 0.4 - 0.5min/mm, quenching 170 ~ 18℃ nitrate below M6 specification, quenching hot oil above M6 specification, oil cooling to about 200℃, and air cooling.


    3) Temper. 210 -230℃ x2 - 3h nitrate tempering, hardness 59 - 61HRC.
